NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - A drop in the value of a dollar lifted airline stocks Monday along with the boarder market. At last check, the NYSE Arca Airline Index rose 1.4% to 26.40 points with all of its 13 components aloft. Shares of American parent AMR Corp. rose 1.8% to $5.56, US Airways added 1.3% to $3.14 and Southwest climbed nearly 2% to $9.16. Airline stocks fall as oil tops $80 11/18/2009
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - Airline stocks declined early Wednesday as the price for oil surged past $80 a barrel. At last check, the NYSE Arca Airline Index fell a fraction to 27.08 with six of its 13 components in the red. Shares of Continental fell nearly 1% to $13.57, United parent UAL Corp. declined 1% to $7.41 and US Airways slipped a penny to $3.34. Up fractionally were shares of Alaska Air , Southwest , and Gol Linhas , and Ryanair . Tam Sa rose 2.8% to $17.27. NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Brokerage firm J.P. Morgan upgraded its stock rating for Brazilian airline Gol Linhas Aereas on Monday to neutral as a price war with its domestic rivals appeared to be ending. "This past weekend, GOL appears to have significantly modified its fare structure," the firm said in a note to clients. "Most importantly, close-in walk-up fares were broadly increased, potentially signaling an end to the multi-month pricing battle that had eroded [unit revenue] performance." In the same note, J.P.
