- DETROIT (AP) - American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. said Friday its board of directors approved an amended shareholder rights plan that allows the auto parts supplier to preserve its ability to carry forward prior-year losses, a move than can help reduce a company's tax bill. - NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. said Friday that it swung to a third-quarter profit of $19.6 million, or 35 cents a share, from a loss of $440.9 million, or $8.54 a share, in the year-ago period. The latest quarterly results include gains of 76 cents a share, which were partly offset by charges of 23 cents a share. Analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for a loss of 37 cents a share, on average. Sales declined to $409.6 million from $528.1 million.
