"Arena reported a lower net loss allocable to common stockholders in the third quarter of 2009 of $34.8 million, or $0.38 per share, compared to a net loss allocable to common stockholders in the third quarter of 2008 of $56.2 million, or $0.76 per share, and a net loss allocable to common stockholders in the first nine months of 2009 of $123.4 million, or $1.51 per share, compared to a net loss allocable to common stockholders in the first nine months of 2008 of $177.0 million, or $2.40 per share.

"In late October, ARNA reported data from the pivotal BLOSSOM (Behavioral modification and LOrcaserin Second Study for Obesity Management) phase III trial that demonstrated improvements in patients' body composition, cardiovascular risk factors and quality of life. These findings added to the previously announced top-line BLOSSOM data that showed highly significant weight loss with lorcaserin over one year of treatment in 4,008 patients. The late-breaking data were presented by Lee Kaplan, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and director of the Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center, at Obesity 2009, the 27th Annual Scientific Meeting of The Obesity Society."
