Municipal Officials Gather in San Antonio for NLC's Congress of Cities

SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Thousands of municipal officials will gather this week in San Antonio for the National League of Cities' 2009 Congress of Cities & Exposition at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Throughout the conference, delegates will participate in discussions and educational sessions on public finance, infrastructure, sustainability, public safety and economic development.

Local officials will also hear from Michael Strautmanis,Chief of Staff to the Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Relations and Public Engagement, William Freund, chief economist emeritus of the New York Stock Exchange, Ed Begley Jr., actor, author and environmental activist and Doris Kearns Goodwin, political author and historian. Additionally, Alejandro Mayorkas, Director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, will discuss what citizenship means to cities.

Additionally, attendees will participate in mobile workshops highlighting some of San Antonio's most innovative city projects. Tours will address urban renewal, green/open space, emergency management, human services and environmental sustainability.
