The Phoenix Companies, Inc. PNX today announced that its United Way workplace campaign raised $1.13 million to benefit United Way organizations in Hartford, Albany, N.Y., and field employee locations across the country. The contributions consisted of pledges from more than 450 employees, or 66 percent of the workforce, as well as Phoenix’s corporate and matching gifts. The total dollars raised exceeded the company’s contribution goal by 2 percent, and the employee pledge rate exceeded the company’s participation goal by 6 percent.

“These statistics are a testament to the generosity of Phoenix employees, especially in difficult economic times,” said James D. Wehr, Phoenix’s president and chief executive officer.

Many employees committed to large gifts, including 96 Leadership Donors who pledged at least 1 percent of their salary and 54 employees who pledged $5,000 or more.

Dana Pedersen, vice president and product officer, served as campaign chair and Joleen Speight, second vice president, life and annuity, served as vice-chair.
