GE Transportation, a unit of the General Electric Company GE, today received the Patriot Award from the U.S. Department of Defense in recognition of extraordinary support for employees serving in the Missouri National Guard and Reserve.

GE currently employs more than 11,000 U.S. veterans. GE Transportation’s Kansas City plant alone employs 13 veterans out of a workforce of 99 employees. Philip Wood, GE Transportation’s Plant Manager in Kansas City, accepted the award on behalf of GE Transportation.

“It’s an incredible honor to receive the Patriot Award,” Wood said. “In these times of military conflict, GE recognizes the immense sacrifices that our military men and women and their families make every day. To be nominated for this award by one of our employees, our own Sgt. Lee Jelinek, is a testimony to the Company’s commitment to our team members in uniform.”

According to Retired Brigadier General, Tracy Beckette, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) Missouri Chair, “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize American Employers who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the Minute Men before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve.”

GE recently announced the launch of the GE Veterans Network (GEVN). The GEVN will create a community to support, develop and promote the unique characteristics of military veterans throughout GE’s businesses and local communities.
