The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is participating in a clinical trial with Stemline Therapeutics Inc. to test a leukemia drug.

The Houston cancer center and New York biotechnology company are performing Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials of the drug SL-401 in patients with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome.

SL-401 is intended to target the interleukin-3 receptor, a molecule found on cells, which is expressed on multiple hematological cancers including leukemia blasts and leukemia cancer stem cells.
