Already the leading provider of industrial gases in Alaska, Air Liquide SA announced it will double its liquid oxygen and nitrogen capacity there with a new production unit in Anchorage.

According to Michael Graff, CEO of American Air Liquide Holdings Inc., which oversees the Alaskan operations, the gases are essential to the oil and gas and energy infrastructure industries, as well as health care, especially considering Alaska’s remote location.

“This decision follows several other significant investments over the past two years to increase our industrial gas capacity in Southern California, Utah, Texas and Kentucky,” Graff said.

The new Anchorage unit is scheduled to come online in the fall of 2010.

The Paris-based industrial gas giant’s North American headquarters, Air Liquide USA LLC, are based in Houston.
