Horton’s Kids Inc. and Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County will each get $35,000 worth of technology services as the winners of this year’s NPower Greater DC Region Technology Innovation Awards.

The two winners of the annual awards, which were sponsored by Accenture, were announced Thursday night.

The winners received packages that include a strategic technology consulting plan from NPower Greater DC Region, underwritten by Accenture, and free Microsoft software.

Awards were given in two categories, which were based on annual budgets.

With an annual budget of less than $2 million, D.C.-based Horton’s Kids was applauded for its customized sales force database used to manage and view profiles of their children’s medical, family and academic history. After conducting a national search and interviewing dozens of candidates, Horton’s Kids recently made Brenda Chamberlain’s interim executive director position permanent.

With an annual budget of more than $2 million, Silver Spring-based Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County was recognized for developing an open-source, web-based IT infrastructure to ease systems integration across independent health care entities.

The runner-up in the lower budget category was National Association of Free Clinics and the United Nations Foundation: Technology Partnership with the Vodafone Foundation was given the recognition for the higher budget group.

NPower Greater DC Region and Accenture teamed in 2005 to start the awards program to honor nonprofits that are using technology in innovative ways.

Judges hailed from technology companies and nonprofits, including Accenture, AES, Beers & Cutler, and Capital One Financial Corp.
