Aerojet to add 2.4Mw to solar systemNovember 11, 2009 12:15 PM ETMelanie Turner Solar Power Inc. and Aerojet jointly announced Tuesday that Solar Power will add 2.4 megawatts to a single-axis tracker photovoltaic solar system the company installed at the rocket-engine maker’s Rancho Cordova facility. When construction of the initial 3.6-megawatt solar system began in June it already was one of the largest in the nation. The project was used as a backdrop for a recent speech on renewable energy by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. “The addition of this large-scale solar project is further evidence that reliable, renewable and pollution-free technology is here to stay,” Schwarzenegger said in a news release. “And this project is great news for California because it will help us meet our ambitious renewable energy and environmental goals, lead to more homes and businesses powered by sunshine and create new jobs in the clean-tech industry.” Aerojet is a division of rocket manufacturer GenCorp Inc. (NYSE: GY). Founded in 2005, Solar Power (OTCBB: SOPW) designs, manufacturers and markets solar modules and components, and installs solar electric systems for U.S. commercial, public and residential customers. The company installs home solar systems through its wholly owned subsidiary, Yes Solar Solutions. Yes has a store in Roseville and a handful of franchisees. Copyright 2009 bizjournals.com
