Gary Male has taken over leadership of C.T. Male Associates P.C., one of the largest engineering firms in the Albany, N.Y., area.

Male, 62, succeeds Robert Allen, who served as president of the Latham business for 10 years.

Male is the third generation in his family to be in charge of the 135-employee company.

C.T. Male was founded in Niskayuna 99 years ago by his grandfather, Charles T. Male, Sr.

Male’s uncle, Ken, took over after World War II. Joining him in running the business were Male’s father, Charles Jr., and another uncle, Tom. They incorporated as C.T. Male Associates in 1950.

Gary Male joined the firm in 1969 after graduating from college.

Allen stepped down when he turned 62 on Sept. 30, the mandatory retirement age for company shareholders. Gary Male took over as president on Oct. 2.

Gary Male said he’s making the transition from working on a variety of engineering projects, such as the removal and replacement of two water tanks in Latham, to being more visible in the community.

C.T. Male Associates finished last year with $13.2 million in Capital Region billings. Male expects to finish this year with $15.5 million in billings.

Among the company’s biggest projects are land surveying and quality control for the construction of the $4.2 billion GlobalFoundries computer-chip plant at the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Malta.
